Low-dose radioisotope scanning and quantitative analysis in the diagnosis of congenital hypothyroidism.
Quantitative thyroid scanning using low doses of 99mTc sodium pertechnetate (1.85-3.7 MBq) was performed in 38 cases of congenital hypothyroidism. Of these 38 cases, 29 were scanned at 14 +/- 6 days old, and 9 at 1 year old. The scans show the full range of gland anatomy from athyreotic to normal. All morphologically normal scans had grossly increased uptakes of 99mTc. The incidence of the vari...

The use of combined isotope and ultrasonic scanning in the diagnosis of amoebic liver abscess is described, together with details of three cases of this condition seen in the Bristol area in a period of two years. The addition of ultrasonic scanning greatly increases the accuracy of diagnosis by demonstrating a fluid-filled, space-occupying lesion and should ideally be employed whenever liver a...

Thromb Haemost 2007; 97: 501–502 Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a life-threatening disease that presents an ongoing challenge to medical professionals. Clinical diagnosis of PE is difficult; in only about one third of patients in whom it is suspected PE is present (1). Therefore, the clinical diagnosis has to be confirmed or excluded by further testing. In this issue of Thrombosis and Haemostasis y...
متن کاملUltrasound scanning in dermatology.
In recent years, ultrasound scanning has become an important diagnostic tool in dermatology. It is easy to use, completely safe, and provides important diagnostic information. There are 2 basic types of ultrasonography with dermatologic applications. The best established is 20-MHz scanning, which can be used to measure tumor thickness and/or skin thickness when treating inflammatory diseases su...
